GAYLE SAMUELS just appeared on Broadway in CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon starring Tony nominated actress Lauren Ridoff and Joshua Jackson. She recently had the pleasure to work alongside Emmy Award winner Peter Dinklage in CYRANO directed by Erica Schmidt playing the role of The Chaperone. Her recent television credits include a court judge on Michael Weatherly's BULL, Tim Daly's attorney on MADAM SECRETARY, Matthew Rhys and Alison Wright's social worker on THE AMERICANS, a zany receptionist on SOON BY YOU and a cougar mom on the award winning comedy web series Q's ONE NIGHT STANDS. She was thrilled to work with director Kasi Lemmons, featured alongside stars such as Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and Jennifer Hudson in Fox Searchlight's film BLACK NATIVITY. She earned a Best Actress nomination from the Conneticut Critics Circle for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in LADY DAY AT EMERSON'S BAR & GRILL and recently received rave reviews for her portrayal of Rose in August Wilson's FENCES and Louise in SEVEN GUITARS. Gayle also made her Metropolitan Opera debut in LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK. She played James Avery's wife in HONEYBEE, Marla Gibbs' daughter in THE TIDES THAT BIND, starred opposite Ruby Dee in FLYING OVER PURGATORY and played Wanda in Regina Taylor's CROWNS. She also originated the role of Tracee (a cancer victim) in the hit stage production THE DIVORCE starring Vanessa Bell Calloway, Dawnn Lewis and Freda Payne. Other television credits include CUPID, THE CLASS, TWENTY GOOD YEARS and Co-Host of Time Life's THE SOUL STORY opposite the legendary Jerry Butler. Gayle also had the pleasure of working with Melissa Gilbert in the national tour of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE and was thrilled to recently work with Lewis Stadlen playing the Registered Nurse in Neil Simon's THE SUNSHINE BOYS.
Gayle is also a BROADWAY veteran and considers herself very fortunate to have worked with renown directors Hal Prince, Trevor Nunn, Michael Bennett and Bob Fosse in shows such as SUNSET BOULEVARD, GRIND, DANCIN' and DREAMGIRLS. Her Off-Broadway credits include Gloria in the latest Off-Broadway hit SISTAS, Josephine Baker in THE DARK STAR FROM HARLEM, and Ronnette in LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. Internationally, Gayle traveled the world as a featured vocalist with HARRY BELAFONTE, played the Phyllis Hyman role in the Russian tour of SOPHISTICATED LADIES and toured Europe as Charlaine in AIN'T MISBEHAVIN'. Regionally Gayle won critical acclaim for her portrayal of Tina Turner in BEEHIVE and as Kate in SHREW at the Georgia Shakespeare Festival.
